Eden Theological Seminary offers courses at CGCC-UCC  to meet the growing need for degree and non-degree seminary education in the state, filling a void among the progressive Protestant churches. Eden, with its main campus in the St. Louis area, is one of the seven affiliated seminaries of the United Church of Christ, and has been educating women and men for church leadership for over 160 years.

Graduate-level classes continue on the CGCC-UCC campus through Eden Theological Seminary, June 11 – 14 and June 18 – 21 (eight sessions); from 6:00-9:00 p.m. each evening. The course offered is Theology and Practices of Ministry, led by Dr. Leah Gunning Francis.

Eden’s series of courses over the span of this year have tried to touch upon several areas of the spiritual journey from scripture to worship to the compassionate ministry. In summer, students will have the opportunity to discover dynamic leadership for the progressive Christian movement – what skills are needed, what fresh approaches will be effective, and what every person can do to be a part of it. This is a class for anyone seeking to expand their leadership skills, chart the path of effectiveness in the community of their church, or just find out where the church is going in the 21st Century. Don’t miss this opportunity to study with the best and learn the most about what it means to be part of this exciting movement in the church today. Seize the opportunity to study with one of the most dynamic young scholars of education and leadership, Dr. Leah Gunning Francis.

Professor Leah Gunning Francis’ vocation as a Christian educator has been shaped by her understanding of the interconnectedness between the church, academy, and society as well as the mind, body and spirit of individuals. For Professor Gunning Francis, Christian education can form and yet transform. Through her research, teaching, pastoral leadership, and community involvement, Professor Gunning Francis has explored and reflected on various ways in which Christian education can provide a process by which transformation occurs.

“Professors in Christian education have an opportunity to engage students in theological reflection about the interplay between the self and other, the individual and community, and our relationship to God and creation. My goal is to help students think critically about these relationships as a basis for identity formation and the purpose of transformation.”

Professor Gunning Francis is a certified candidate for ordination in the United Methodist Church. She has provided pastoral leadership for congregations in Georgia, Illinois, and Ohio.
